Twin Galaxies Update

Thu, 09/17/2009 - 16:43 — Kaos

walterday.jpg

Today we've got a double-dose of Twin Galaxies updates!

First, we're happy to announce that Walter Day, founder of Twin Galaxies, will be joining us at Infinite Bits 2009. Walter single-handedly kick-started the world of competitive gaming in 1982 when he created the Twin Galaxies International Scoreboard after discovering that not even the game developers were keeping track of high scores. Since then, Twin Galaxies has been recognized as the only official scorekeepers in the world of video gaming by Guinness World Records, G4tv, MSNBC, Gameroom Magazine, and dozens more mainstream organizations.

We'd also like to announce our full lineup of world record games and challenges!

Resident Evil 5 - Xbox 360 - Rack up the highest score and defeat as many of the Infected as possible before the timer expires in Mercenary Mode.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare - Xbox 360 - Score the highest and don't get killed during an arcade mode run of "The Mile High Club."

Mirror's Edge - Xbox 360 - Get the fastest time in any time trial.

Rock Band 2 / Rock Band Beatles - Xbox 360 - Get the highest single-player score in any song with any instruement.

Halo 3 - Xbox 360 - Get the highest score in meta-scoring mode on Sierra 117 with legendary difficulty.

Mario Kart Wii - Wii - Get the fastest lap on Rainbow Road.

Smash Bros. Brawl - Wii - Hit the sandbag the furthest in the home run contest. Separate records are kept for each character, so you can choose your favorite character or choose the character whose record you think is easiest to topple.

Smash Bros. Brawl - Wii - Defeat as many opponents as you can with one life in Endless Brawl.

Wii Sports Resort - Wii - Get the highest score in archery on expert difficultly.

Wii Sports Resort - Wii - Get the highest score in the Table Tennis Return Challenge.

All attendees will get the chance to participate in any of these contests, but remember, you've got to be the best if you want get that world record. Go to the Twin Galaxies Official Website to check the current records, and then get practicing!

Musical Chairs

Sat, 09/12/2009 - 16:33 — Kaos

Some announcements on musical guest changes and additions:

First, I'm sorry to announce that I Fight Dragons have canceled their appearance. They'll be on a West Coast tour with MC Chris. We wish them the best of luck.

However, I have three new musical guests to add in their place!

goatslacker, born Joshua Perez, is a chipmusic composer residing in Miami Florida. Although style and genre always varies, goatslackers sound can be classified as nostalgic, or 8-bit. Musically, his influences are scattered like pieces from different puzzles. These pieces are then forged together to form a new puzzle with a different feel. goatslacker beams into battle armed with dual 1989 Nintendo Game Boys and his custom keyboard. The mission is clear: galactic domination.

Random Encounter is a video game cover band from Tampa, Florida. Over the years they've changed many members and even musical styles, but one thing remains consistent - their love for RPGs and video game music. Rock with them as they perform classics from series like Final Fantasy and The Legend of Zelda.

Starscream is Damon Hardjowirogo and George Stroud of New York City, two of the tri-state area's finest astronauts. Sometimes they make music with Nintendo Game Boy's, Commodore 64's and drums. When not making music both members are active screen-printers and can be found around the city either on bike or skateboard.

Costume Contest Rules

Tue, 09/01/2009 - 14:48 — Kaos

Complete rules for the Infinite Bits 2009 Costume Contest are now available here. Read them carefully if you intend on entering. Please remember the most important thing is that this is a Video Game costume contest. All entries must have originated as a video game. This means:

Super Mario = Good
Naruto = Bad
Link = Good
Harry Potter = Bad
Master Chief = Good
Darth Vader = Bad
Kratos = Good
Spiderman = Bad

See a pattern here?

There are some exceptions to this, for example, if a character has a distinct art style/costume that only appears in a video game (i.e. Mickey, Goofy, and Donald in Kingdom Hearts). If you have any questions about the eligibility of your costume, please contact us at staff@infinitebitsconvention.com

Nobody wants you to end up as that guy (or gal).

New Museum Additions

Tue, 09/01/2009 - 14:06 — Kaos

This past weekend we acquired some awesome new additions for our interactive video game museum, including some truly exceptional retro and Japanese systems. Some of it is pictured above. While I can't guarantee that every system we picked up will make it to the convention, I can say without a doubt that our museum will contain the most incredible collection of video games and systems you've ever seen.

Egoraptor - Invited and Confirmed

Fri, 08/21/2009 - 14:26 — Kaos

metal-gear-awesome.jpg

Arin "Egoraptor" Hanson WILL be joining us as our latest confirmed guest at Infinite Bits. There was some confusion the other day about the status of him as a guest on both our forum and his website, but we've exchanged a few e-mails and worked things out.

For those unfamiliar with Egoraptor, he is the creator of the super popular web animations Metal Gear Awesome and Girlchan in Paradise (among others), and is the voice of John Gore in Minigore, a "shoot everything that moves" action/survival game that recently debuted on the iPhone.

Join him at "Egoraptor's Super Panel Where Justice is Upheld" for the adventure of a lifetime, or stop by his table to say hi.

Stadium Events - Home Run Contest - You've got one shot and all you've gotta do is hit the sandbag the furthest. Separate records are kept for each character, so you can choose your favorite character or choose the character whose record you think is easiest to topple.

Endless Brawl - The enemies keep on coming and they never stop. How many can you beat with only one life?

So check out the current high scores on Twin Galaxies' website and start practicing.

Infinite Bits Welcomes The Nostalgia Critic

Tue, 08/18/2009 - 23:33 — Hylian Blood

nc_image.jpg

We're proud to announce our latest guest: Doug Walker from Thatguywiththeglasses.com. Doug is best known for his character The Nostalgia Critic who reviews bad movies and TV shows from your childhood. He also plays the roles of That Guy With The Glasses who answers the weirdest questions the fans can come up with and Chester A. Bum, the hyper active bum who loves movies among other things. He's also noted for having a long standing "rivalry" with The Angry Video Game Nerd. We're very thankful he's taking the time to come all the way down here. So stop by Infinite bits and meet him and we'll be sure to make one of his first conventions a memorable one!

Hear it from the man himself after the break!
